February Community Service Event...

February 16 (Saturday)
1:15 pm - 3:00 pm
**Address Update**  Senior Community Center, 928 Broadway

It's time for this great annual event. We'll spend a fun afternoon playing bingo with the seniors at the Senior Community Center Downtown. We won't be having ice cream this year as it may be too cold, but we will have dessert. Feel free to bring your own Bingo prize or homemade dessert, just be sure to let Dean know. You can also just bring yourself and Rotaract will purchase everything we need. Both the seniors and all other participants always have a great time at this event.

If you would like to help shop for prizes before the event, please email Dean Koci.
Please RSVP on the Evite. You can get more info on the Senior Center by clicking here.

Guest Speaker Next Week: Sandra Schrift

February 19 (Tuesday)
6:30 pm
Kansas City BBQ, 610 W. Market Street

Our guest speaker on February 19th will be Sandra Schrift. She will talk to us about "Why Can't You Be More Like Me? (Appreciating Individual Differences)". This is a talk she has done to numerous Rotary clubs in the past. Sandra Schrift is a member of our sponsoring club, the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club

An excerpt from Sandra Schrift's website:

"A personal coach can do for your mind what a personal trainer does for your body! Coaching is becoming popular as time becomes more valuable. What would it be like for you to be wise, happy, and successful this year vs. waiting for a decade or two?

Coach Schrift, who started the first national, professional Speakers Bureau in San Diego in 1982, now works with emerging and experienced speakers on reaching the next level in their speaking careers. Coach Schrift also loves to partner with business owners on growing themselves as well as their business. She typically coaches clients three times per month by telephone with email and fax support as needed. Her goal is to help you resolve problems and challenges in "real time" coaching."
March Social: An Afternoon at the Theater with North County Rotaract

World Food Cultural Contest

Our sister chapter of Rotaract in Ankara, Turkey – The Rotaract Club of Ankara Kavaklidere – is sponsoring a World Food Cultural Contest.

The first step is to enter a recipe from each participant's part of the world. After many good suggestions by our members, we've decided to enter a good old American stand-by, cheeseburgers!

The next step to entering our recipe is to film some of our members preparing the food. The film will be placed on You Tube, along with other entries from clubs around the world which include Nepal, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Sicily and Malta chapters. Our sister club in Ankara prepared a short introductory video.

There is an exciting reward waiting for the winners of the World Food Cultural Contest!!! Two members of the winning chapter of Rotaract will be hosted in Ankara, Turkey, for one week!

This is a very exciting opportunity to be involved with Rotaract on an international level and we need everyone's support to make this happen. Please email Cade if you would like to be involved in filming, own a camera, or simply have some creative ideas about how to film our "cooking show".

Rotaract & Rotary Trivia

Rotary Membership

Rotarians are business and professional leaders who take an active role in their communities while greatly enriching their personal and professional lives. Each Rotary club strives for a membership that is an up-to-date and progressive representation of its community's business, vocational, and professional interests.

Through Rotary's service programs, a Rotary club can have a significant effect on the quality of life in its community. Rotary Foundation programs offer opportunities to form international partnerships that help people in need worldwide. Some 1.2 million Rotarians in 30,000 clubs in more than 160 countries make significant contributions to the quality of life at home and around the globe.

The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. Membership in a Rotary club requires an invitation and sponsorship by a member of the club as well as an available business or professional classification.
