Next Meeting Our first general meeting of 2008 will be held on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 6:30 pm at Kansas City BBQ, 610 W. Market Street, Downtown San Diego. Please note: There will be no meeting on January 29! We are only meeting on the first and third Tuesdays of each month! We're looking forward to seeing you!

Bingo at the Senior Community Center February Community Service Event... February 09 (Saturday) 1:15 pm (1:45 pm - 3:00 pm, arrival time 1:15 pm) Senior Community Center, 525 14th Street, Suite 200 We'll spend a fun afternoon playing bingo with the seniors at the Senior Community Center Downtown. World Food Cultural Contest Our sister chapter of Rotaract in Ankara, Turkey – The Rotaract Club of Ankara Kavaklidere – is sponsoring a World Food Cultural Contest. The first step is to enter a recipe from each participant's part of the world. After many good suggestions by our members, we've decided to enter a good old American stand-by, cheeseburgers! The next step to entering our recipe is to film some of our members preparing the food. The film will be placed on You Tube, along with other entries from clubs around the world which include Nepal, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Sicily and Malta chapters. Our sister club in Ankara prepared a short introductory video. There is an exciting reward waiting for the winners of the World Food Cultural Contest!!! Two members of the winning chapter of Rotaract will be hosted in Ankara, Turkey, for one week! This is a very exciting opportunity to be involved with Rotaract on an international level and we need everyone's support to make this happen. Please email Cade if you would like to be involved in filming, own a camera, or simply have some creative ideas about how to film our "cooking show".

Tijuana Homebuilding Update Unfortunately, as many of you know, we were unable to do our annual Tijuana Homebuilding event due to the devastating wild fires this past October. Though we weren't able to physically build the home, we've decided to still financially support the project. This week, our chapter of Rotaract is sending a $650.00 check to cover the expenses of building a home the Mexico Caravan Ministries. A New Look for the New Year – New Rotaract T-Shirts The long awaited new T–Shirts for the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego are now available! The new shirts will be available for purchase at our next meeting for $15. The white cotton shirts are available in a variety of sizes and in both women's and men's cuts. Support the our club and look good doing it by purchasing the newest Rotaract tee.

Members' Bulletin Board Health Playing at the Casbah on January 29 January 29 CASBAH w/ White Williams, 2501 Kettner Boulevard A message from our 2004-2005 President Geoff Miller: "My brother BJ's band, Health, is on tour from now until mid-April and they are playing in a different city around the US and Canada almost every night between now and then. They had some huge successes last year, playing a two week tour in the UK and getting some great press at CMJ in NYC and SXSW in Austin. They've got a unique sound and they are amazing in concert (as much to see as there is to hear). They are playing at the Casbah on January 29 and I'll be there supporting them. Rotaract & Rotary Trivia Why did Rotary experience unusual growth in the early 1990s? Rotary experienced a growth spurt in the early 1990s when it expanded into former Soviet bloc countries following the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union. Beginning in 1989, clubs in Central and Eastern Europe that had been disbanded for more than 50 years were re-established, and the first Russian Rotary club was chartered in 1990.
