| Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes 2007 December 01 (Saturday) 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm MINUS 1 Lounge, Keating Hotel, 432 F Street Ticket prices: $35 the week of the event
Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes is closer than you think! We have pinned down the following details to make this event the best this club has ever produced: Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes (benefitting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), December 1st, 2007, 6-9 PM, The MINUS 1 Lounge at the Keating Hotel, 432 F Street, Live Jazz Music Featuring the Elliott Lawrence Trio. Tickets will be sale at meetings but also through the website via PayPal. Tickets are now $35, since this is the week of our event. Our Beneficiary: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. We are looking forward to a great event in an exciting venue with great food, live music, and friends! Web and Mail Exposure For Our Sponsors Are you collecting raffle and auction items? Have logos from your sponsors? Send them to Derrick to get your sponsors web and email exposure as a thanks for helping make Jazz a success! We Need Your Help With Jazz less than a week away, we still need your help to make the event a sucess. Please help to promote the event by communicating with your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors! If you would like to sell paper tickets, please contact Amanda. Eblasts will continue to be sent out and tickets are available on our website via PayPal. Thank you to everyone for your support with this event!

| Guest Speaker on December 04: Ian Lesser from One
Acre Fund December 04 (Tuesday) 6:30 pm Kansas City BBQ, 610 W. Market Street, Downtown San Diego Ian Lesser will come to our meeting and speak about his efforts with the One Acre Fund. One Acre Fund is a 5013(c) organization designed to address chronic hunger in Africa by developing sustainable agriculture and sustainable communities. They are pioneering a tiny investment package that will enable farm families to grow their own way out of hunger, permanently instead of providing hand outs of meals one at a time. Last year this program reached over 550 farmers and Ian is the program manager for the Kakamega branch of the organization where they have plans to work with up to 1200 farmers. Ian Lesser can provide further info about the project if you are interested. He can also provide our club with perspective about this issue in Kenya and elsewhere, he can also speak to what it is like living and working for a non-profit in Africa. He grew up in San Diego and his perspective is unique and likely very compelling for a group like ours. |

| Rotaract & Rotary Trivia Polio Plus In 1985, Rotary made a historic commitment to immunize all of the world's children against polio. Working in partnership with non-governmental organizations and national governments thorough its PolioPlus program, Rotary is the largest private-sector contributor to the global polio eradication campaign. Rotarians have mobilized hundreds of thousands of PolioPlus volunteers and have immunized more than one billion children worldwide. By 2005, Rotary had contributed half a billion dollars to the cause. Major gains have been made in the global fight against polio: In the 1980s, 1,000 children were infected by the disease every day in 125 countries. Today, polio cases have declined by 99 percent, with fewer than two thousand cases reported in 2006. Two billion children have been immunized, five million have been spared disability, and over 250,000 deaths from polio have been prevented. |
