Community Service Recap: Serving Dinner to Veterans

Last Saturday, volunteers from North County and Downtown Rotaract came together to serve dinner to veterans in an occupational training program. They served dozens at the Interfaith Community Services' kitchen. It was a great menu prepared that almost made the volunteers jealous. The veterans were very happy to have the meal and new friends. Make sure check out the pictures and the awesome hair nets.

Professional Development: Looking For Ideas

Our Professional Development Chair James would like your ideas and your input:

Who would you like to see as our guest speaker in the future?
Which topics and/or ideas would
you like to hear more about at one of our meetings?

If you have recommendations for a guest speaker, please include the following information:
name
phone number
Why / how do you know them?
What do they do that is admirable?
How would them talking to us be beneficial to our group?

Please try to stay away from any type of sales presentation. We are only looking for professional and personal development topics and subjects.

If you have suggestions for guest speakers or professional / personal development topics, please send an e-mail to James Holland.
Entertainment Books

In an effort to boost our fundraising efforts for Tijuana Home Building, we are looking at new fundraising opportunities. We are exploring selling Entertainment Books as the revenue per book for our club is very high. The books are $40 and nearly 50% of that is a return to the club.

If anyone is interested in selling or purchasing books, please contact Amanda Scott, Fundraising Chair, 619-708-2295.
Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes 2007

September 10 (Monday)
6:00 pm
4747 Viewridge Avenue, Main Conference Room

Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes is nearing! It is time to start planning for our annual Jazz for Diabetes Research Foundation Event! The event is typically held in early December and has been a great success in the past. The event is hosted downtown at a bar, restaurant, or club and includes live Jazz Entertainment, a raffle and silent auction. We are hoping that this event will be our biggest and best yet!

There is much to do to pull of an event of this proportion including obtaining donations for raffle and silent auction, gaining publicity to promote the event, plan for catering, and much more. We will put together a Jazz committee for all of the various aspects of the event. This is a great way to get involved for our members and perspective members!

The kick off meeting is open to anyone who is interested in getting involved. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 10th at 6:00 pm at 4747 Viewridge Avenue, Main Conference Room, San Diego, CA 92123.

If you cannot make the meeting but are interested in dedicating some time to the cause, please feel free to e-mail Fundraising Chair Amanda Scott or call her at 619-708-2295.

Rotaract & Rotary Trivia

What is the "4-Way Test"?

The "4-Way Test" was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 as a means to save a company in depression-caused financial difficulties. This test became a guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company was credited to this simple philosophy.

The "4-Way Test" was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100 languages and published in thousands of ways. The message should be known and followed by all Rotarians. The test asks the following four questions:

"Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
