2007-2008 Rotaract Elections – Service Above Self

It's that time again... for Rotaract Elections! In less than two months, a new (and improved?) board will take the helm and bring our Rotaract club into its new year. Here is the chance for you to become a part of a dynamic leadership group that will no doubt become part of your San Diego family.

New board members will take office July 1, 2007 but voting is only weeks away. There will be nominations and voting for the four (4) elected positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Nominations for these positions will be presented at our meeting on May 1. Elections will take place at the following meeting, on May 15. Once these four are elected they will build the rest of their supporting board. The time between mid-May and July will allow for a better transition from the current board to the new board. We plan to mentor each new board member and provide experience and knowledge transfer for planning events and meetings in advance of taking office.

Start thinking about where you will fit in on the 2007-2008 board. If you think that you may be a great fit for any of the Board positions, please do consider this fantastic opportunity. You are welcome to approach the person who is currently in whatever Board position(s) you're interested. We appreciate your interest and excitement. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask Bridget or any member of our current or past boards.

July 01 Rotaract/Rotary year 2007-2008 begins.
New board members take office.
Calling all Members and Prospective Members...

Membership Dues Are Due!

Membership dues are due by the end of April. (Note: this will ensure that you are eligible to get the membership discount for Ace of Hearts.)

If you haven't yet paid, please go to our website at http://www.sandiegorotaract.org. At the top of the screen you should see "Membership." From that next screen, there is a spot to pay dues through Pay Pal.

It takes only a minute or two to do... and, as you know, your efforts will help us to put on even better events to help others.

Thank you for your timeliness.

Armond Croom
Treasurer
Wanted: Used Cell Phones!

Jonathan Stone from the Downtown Breakfast Rotary is participating in a cell phone recycling program. He is asking all of us to bring in our old cell phones that we don't need anymore. Jonathan is working with an agency that recycles these phones for parts or by giving newer models to people in need. Since we can't throw away old cell phones because of their batteries, this is the perfect chance to dispose of your phone and see it put to good use.

Please bring your used cell phones to our meetings on the first and third Tuesday of the month and turn them in to Jonathan Stone or Cade Fulton.

Rotaract & Rotary Trivia

Bill Boyd, 2006-07 Rotary International President:

Bill's Resource Groups – Water

Water is essential to human life, yet many people take the gift of safe water for granted. Today, 1.1 billion people – nearly 20 percent of the world population – lack access to safe, clean drinking water, and 2.6 billion people lack access to basic sanitation facilities. Lack of safe water and adequate sanitation exacerbates the spread of preventable waterborne illnesses that result in the death of about 6,000 people every day, the majority of whom are children. Moreover, these circumstances are leading contributors to worldwide poverty and social instability.

The Water Resource Group has been appointed to support Rotary's efforts to address this important global issue. Over the next year, the resource group will provide information to Rotary clubs and districts and encourage them to take an active role in programs to develop water and sanitation resources. It will encourage every Rotarian to become aware of water-related issues and every Rotary club to participate in a water or sanitation project. In addition, the resource group will attempt to identify and facilitate major Rotary water projects around the world, and will work to develop guidelines for best practices to support Rotary’s water and sanitation projects.
