Downtown Breakfast Rotary's Spring Fundraiser:
Support Needed!
April 14 (Saturday) 7:00 pm Disconnected Salon
a fabulout new & unique event venue in North Park: 3830 30th
Street
Ever wonder what you'd look like with blue hair? Or, just for one
night, you want to try a hair style radically different from the one you
normally wear? Or, perhaps this is something you do often... Whatever your
reason, switch things up and wear a wig to a fun event that will also
benefit our community.
The Downtown Breakfast Rotary's 2007 fundraiser
is taking on a new twist. Come "wig out" with fellow Rotaractors and Rotarians
in a completely fun and casual setting. (Wigs are not technically required, but
if you're at all tempted to try something new with no reprecussions this
is your chance!)
This fundraiser is being held to support the many
projects that our sponsoring Rotary club plans and executes to better not only
our local community, but to touch lives around the world! Tickets are $100.00
each and include dinner. The Breakfast Rotary always does so much to support
our chapter and now it's time to return the favor! We currently have all the
volunteers we need for this event, but please try to attend and bring friends
to this special event. Save the date, and we'll see you at Wiggin' Out on April
14! |
Wanted: Used Cell Phones!
Jonathan Stone from the
Downtown Breakfast Rotary is participating in a cell phone recycling program.
He is asking all of us to bring in our old cell phones that we don't need
anymore. Jonathan is working with an agency that recycles these phones for
parts or by giving newer models to people in need. Since we can't throw away
old cell phones because of their batteries, this is the perfect chance to
dispose of your phone and see it put to good use.
Please bring
your used cell phones to our meetings on the first and third Tuesday of the
month and turn them in to Jonathan Stone or Cade Fulton. |

Professional Development: Rotaract Roadmap to
Leadership
Starting in March 2007, our Professional Development
Chair, Jeff Haskin, presented his 'Rotaract Roadmap to Leadership'. According
to the Rotaract Handbook, a Rotaract Club's leadership development activities
aim not only to make members more effective leaders in their personal lives,
but also to teach them how to develop and sustain strong clubs with relevant
projects. Our Club's professional development activities should expand the
members' understanding of the work environment and business opportunities
within our community while simultaneously providing members tools and ideas to
grow personally and reach all individual life goals.
In an effort to
fully assist in developing a better group of leaders within our organization we
have created fundamental leadership values our members can strive to achieve.
The values collected in this document shall be a fluid resource with the
ability to be updated and changed on a regular basis. In the near future, a PDF
version of the 'Roadmap' will be made available on our website. Jeff will also
be posting additional resources, 'action steps', and meeting discussion notes
for members to utilize.
The leadership values will also be used to
coordinate our monthly speakers. Our speakers will continue to be informative,
interesting, and inspiring. If anyone has speaker suggestions for our Chair,
please email Jeff as soon as possible.
Review the 'Roadmap' to determine which topic any of the speakers could
address. We have discussed the following topics:
1. 2. 3. 4.
5. |
A
leader has visions. A leader commits to goals to achieve the vision. A
leader plans and organizes. A leader approaches problem solving in an
open-minded and collaborative manner. A leader is
decisive.
|
| April 03 |
We
were joined by Liz Shear. Liz Shear is an adjunct faculty at the USD School of
Education in Non-Profit Leadership and Management Program. She also is the
creator and coordinator of the USD Annual Institute on Non-Profit Governance.
Liz was very qualified to join us and speak on our 'Roadmap to Leadership'
Topic #4 "A leader approaches problem solving in an open-minded and
collaborative manner." Please view our website in the near future to review the
discussion notes and utilize the collaborative problem solving resources
provided to our Club by Liz. |
| April 17 |
Speaker TBD We will either take a break from the 'Roadmap' and
have a different speaker -or- we will have a speaker addressing Topic #5
A leader is decisive. |
| May 01 |
Professional Development discussion on Topic #6 A leader
maintains integrity. |
| May 15 |
Speaker TBD to address Topic #6. |

Welcome to Our New

event, attend one meeting of our
sponsoring Rotary Club, pay a

year.
Congratulations to our new member, who has recently fulfilled
