On December 1st, 2006, the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego will hold its Fifth Annual Jazz For Juvenile Diabetes event in Downtown San Diego. Jazz For Juvenile Diabetes 2006 is a jazz concert (and great party) featuring a live performance by San Diego favorite David Patrone. This year the event moves to a larger stage than ever before at the Karma Lounge, downstairs at On Broadway Events Center. Your event ticket is good for access to the entire On Broadway venue after the event officially ends at 10 pm. Eat, drink and dance to some great music – and all for a worthy cause!

Each year, Jazz For Juvenile Diabetes benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation San Diego. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. The San Diego Chapter of JDRF serves all of San Diego County and extends north to Orange County. The Chapter provides valuable information about juvenile diabetes to people with diabetes, their families, and the general public, as well as raising much-needed funds for diabetes research.

Take part and help raise funds for this great organization by purchasing your tickets today. Entrance tickets are $30 per person for Rotaract members, and $35 for non-members if purchased in advance. All tickets purchased at the door are $40, so make sure to buy yours early. Raffle tickets are $5 (5 for $20). Both can be purchased online through PayPal using your major credit card or bank account. Tickets will be held for you at the door, so you don't need to worry about shipping. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the night of the event, but there is a possibility that it will sell out. To purchase tickets, please click here.

Don't forget ... Please help the cause by making this one of our most successful fundraisers ever! Share this information with friends, family and co-workers and encourage them to tell their friends! Thanks for your support!!!

We're looking forward to celebrating with you for a great cause on December 1st!
Upcoming Social Events

Due to conflicting interests, the Potluck and game night on November 18th was cancelled.

However, there will be two events in December, Balboa Park December Nights on December 2nd and our Annual Holiday Party later in the month. The evites will be sent out toward the end of the month. If you have questions or comments, please contact our Social Chair Mark.

Balboa Park December Nights

December 02 (Saturday)
Time TBA
Balboa Park

The beloved San Diego event features sparkling lights, color and music with traditional celebrations and holiday-themed entertainment areas. In the spirit of the holidays, participating Balboa Park museums open their doors free of charge from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, the main-stage Spreckels Organ Pavilion highlights choral presentations from a variety of groups and the Del Cerro Baptist Church Christmas Story Tree is featured each night. Music, theatrical, and dance presentations will take place in many of the museums and cultural organizations.

December Nights is also a true multicultural food fest, with mouthwatering ethnic culinary specialties from 27 countries at hand for you to sample. It also features culinary adventures from some of San Diego's finest restaurants at the Plaza de Panama Holiday Taste of San Diego.

The Barona Band of Mission Indians will contribute a unique cultural element to the events with My Ancestors’ Village, the re-creation of a traditional Native American village within the heart of Balboa Park, a tribute to the local tribes and the important role they have played in San Diego's history.

The Cascades Holiday Marketplace brings crafts, foods and entertainment from around the world and the Palisades Midway harkens back to the 1915-16 Panama-California Exposition and the 1935-36 California-Pacific International Exposition – the celebrations to which Balboa Park owes its rich history – with carnival rides, and fun for children.

Magnificent poinsettia plants turn Balboa Park’s historic wood lath Botanical Building into a glowing tribute to the holidays.

The event benefits Kids Included Together, a local non-profit group supporting the inclusion of children with disabilities in community programs, and several other local non-profits. Adriana is looking for volunteers to help with various aspects of the event including activity booths, Breakfast with Santa, gift wrapping station, etc.

If you would like to volunteer, please email Cade or call her at 858-705-1575. You can also download a volunteer form here.
Professional Development

Last week, Professional Development Chair Jeff Haskin briefly introduced the "Rotaract Roadmap to Leadership". The concept introduces 10 essential aspects to effective leadership. The final version will include the 10 aspects and 10 'Action Steps' to assist our membership in achieving their professional and leadership goals. The basic idea will be to introduce and discuss one aspect of leadership on our first meeting each month. Jeff will also try to coordinate our monthly speakers with each corresponding aspect of leadership. In addition, we will also make sure these documents are available online.
(Note: This material is a combination of many resources. If anyone would like a list of resources, please e-mail Jeff Haskin.)
