We're looking forward to seeing you there!
Annual Rancho Jireh Picnic: Volunteers Needed!

September 17 (Sunday)
2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
De Anza Cove, Mission Bay

More volunteers are needed! We still need positions filled for things like set-up at 1:00 pm, sign-making, water-balloon toss / relay race, sports with the kids, prize patrol, cookie decorating, face-painting, and clean-up. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Cade.

The Rancho Jireh Picnic will be held on Sunday, September 17th, from 2:30 - 5:00 pm. The picnic is located in De Anza Cove in Mission Bay.

Please bring sunscreen, beach chairs and blankets to sit on, and sporting equipment if you have it. Kansas City BBQ will cater the event. We'll play games and have activities like face painting and cookie decorating.

Parking will be a challenge, so please plan on arriving early. Directions: Take I-5 to the Clairemont Drive Exit, head West to East Mission Bay Drive, then right to North Mission Bay Drive. This road goes into the parking lot of De Anza Cove.

Thanks and we'll see you there!
Special Guest on September 19: Rotary District Governor Philippe Lamoise

We'll be having a special visitor on September 19. The current Rotary District Governor of District 5340, Philippe Lamoise, will join our meeting that night. He'll introduce himself and explain more about his role.

Philippe Lamoise joined Rotary in 1994. He is a past-president of the Torrey Pines Rotary Club. He has served in many committees at the District level, and was named Rotarian of the Year for District 5340 last year. He has been involved with all major programs of the Rotary Foundation. Professionally he is self-employed and develops websites and does video productions.

Mr. Lamoise has very often used his professional skills to serve Rotary. He signed up as a Rotary Volunteer to spend five weeks in Northern India to teach computers and video editing to monks in a Tibetan Monastery in Dharamsala. He went back to the same area of India in November 2004, again to teach computers to the local community, and to follow up on some projects that got started in 2003. Check out the links on the District 5340 website to learn more about those two trips.

Tijuana Homebuilding on October 21st: Come Make a Difference!

October 21 (Saturday)
5:45 am - 7:00 pm
Tijuana

The annual Tijuana Homebuilding event is coming upon us again and this year, the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego is hoping to have another caravan of enthusiastic, energetic, helpful members who are willing to spend a day helping to build homes in Tijuana. We will be working side by side with the Mexico Caravan Ministries Group to build two homes for poverty-stricken families south of the border.

The Mexico Caravan Ministries was founded fifteen years ago by Dave Burdette, a missionary who aimed to bring Canadian and American students and adults to help the homeless in Mexico. Groups of 10-15 people go out early in the day with their assigned guide who has expertise in building these homes. Through teamwork and collaboration, by the end of the day the group has built a solid 12'X16' shelter!

We will be leaving very early in the morning (5:45 am) on October 21st. People may park their cars at the Old Town Trolley station for the day. We will carpool in vans to meet up with the ministry guide in Chula Vista by 6:30 am. We need to make sure that we are on time as the guide will be taking us into the heart of Tijuana province. We should be back into San Diego by 7:00 pm that evening.

This event will make a difference in the lives of everyone involved. The project aims to help those less fortunate and reach our hearts and hands across cultural borders. It's amazing what can be accomplished in only one day! No construction experience or tools are required. Tools are provided by the guides. Participants need only to be prepared for an incredible time – to have a lot of fun and laughter with other Rotaractors while creating a lasting legacy in Tijuana. Join in on this wonderful event and make a difference in someone's life!

We will need 25 members (must be a member by October 21) to join this free service event.

Contact Chantelle Swaby or Dean Koci to sign up, or for more details.
