| Community Service: Ice Cream Social for
Seniors August 5th (Saturday) 1:45 pm - 3:00 pm Potiker Family Senior Residence, 928 Broadway (between 9th & 10th Streets downtown) Let's cool down at our next community service event an Ice Cream Social at the senior center! During these hot months, the elderly are especially vulnerable to the elements and this is the perfect way to keep everyone cool! We'll be dishing out sundaes and perhaps there'll be time to play some games, too. Our Community Service Chair, Cade, will supply the ice cream, but please bring your favorite ice cream topping, i.e. bottle of chocolate sauce, can of whip cream, jar of cherries, etc. We are really looking forward to this event and we hope to see you all there! Street parking is available but please arrive a few minutes early to locate a spot. To RSVP or find out information, please email Cade. |

| Social Event: Del Mar Fair & Billy
Idol August 12 (Saturday) 12:30 pm @ Pizza Port, Solana Beach or 3:00 pm @ the Del Mar Track Our next Rotaract social event is a day at the Del Mar Track. On Saturday, we will be meeting for lunch at Pizza Port in Solana Beach and then heading over to the Del Mar Track for the races and the Microbrew Festival during the day followed by a free concert by Billy Idol after the races end. There will be several chances to meet up with us during the day. For those that want to meet for lunch and carpool to the track, we are meeting at Pizza Port in Solana Beach at 12:30 pm (135 N. Highway 101, Solana Beach, CA 92075). To get there take the 5 and exit Lomas Santa Fe and go West until you reach the 101 and turn right. Then it is about 100 feet on your left. Just park on the side streets. We will probably leave Pizza Port aroun two-ish then head to the track which is very close. Parking at the track is $6 and general admission is also $6. The first race starts at 2pm. For those that want to meet us there, our Social Chair, Mark, will meet people at 3:00 pm. When you first enter the track there is a small stage about a hundred feet on your left, which is used for the Friday concerts. We will meet people there at 3:00 pm. If you get there later, our group will be around the microbrew area which is directly on the opposite side of the finish line in a grassy area. Just ask around where the microbrew area is located or call Mark at 858-922-1275, if you can't find us. After the races end, the free Billy Idol concert starts at 7:00 pm near the microbrew area. And afterwards, for those who want to go out, there is the option of going to En Fuego in Del Mar. Rotaract has done these events before and they are good times all around. If you haven't received our evite please contact our Social Chair, Mark. |

| Recap: USCC Rotaract Conference Rotaractors and prospect members from Downtown San Diego Rotaract Club enjoyed a fun filled weekend at the United States, Canada, and Caribbean (USCC) Conference last weekend, July 21 23. Over fifteen people from San Diego joined up in Los Angeles to meet people from over 400 Rotaract clubs in the conference region. San Diego members met up on Friday evening for some Los Angeles social gatherings, reconvened on Saturday morning to attend the morning conferences held at UCLA, and settled in Hollywood for a "Mingle under the Stars" finale. The conference proved fruitful and rewarding as several clubs represented their home towns and presented on community projects and professional development. Guest speaker, Angi Ma Wong, Feng Shui expert and public speaker gave a presentation titled "Ancient Solutions to Modern Day Stress". The audience was entertained by her funny stories as a young adult coping with stress and her many exercises to physically relieve the pains of stress. San Diegan Rotaractors enjoyed the lessons of yoga type moves, back massages, and mental games to relieve stress. Saturday continued with fun as Rotaractors around the region joined for a night of celebration, awards, dining, and dancing at the La Trastevere in Hollywood. The members from San Diego met new friends from around the district as well as met up with familiar faces. The weekend proved to develop the attendees socially, professionally, and definitely internationally. Check out the photos below for a few impressions from a great conference!

| International: Felicia's Visit to Route
Istanbul Our member Felicia Islas tells us about her visit to Turkey earlier this year: "One of the great experiences Ive had through Rotaract is meeting fellow Rotaractors around the world. I had the opportunity to attend a Rotaract international event, known as Route Istanbul, hosted in Istanbul, Turkey for five days (May 17 - May 21). I stayed in a Turkish home with my Rotaract hostess who was very sweet, kind and hospitable. The event was well organized because at the same time you're getting to know Rotaract members; you also have a guided tour of all the main attractions this beautiful city offers to its visitors. Route Istanbul promoted and reinforced international relationships between Rotaract clubs by inviting Rotaractors from all over the world to visit Istanbul. Personally, I had an amazing time and bonded with many people I met there. I strongly encourage all Rotaractors to get involved in Rotaracts international gatherings such as this one. Its an incredible experience with unforgettable memories." |
