Social: Culture and Cocktails

July 20 (Thursday)
6:00 pm
San Diego Museum of Art, 1450 El Prado

Our next social event is going to be "Culture and Cocktails" at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park. Every few months the museum has these events where the museum itself becomes a cocktail party. You can walk around the museum and they have a DJ and performers. The museum website describes this event:

"Escape the summer heat at the always cool Culture & Cocktails. Sip on refreshing drinks, chill to fresh tunes spun by DJ Sergio, and stroll through Andy Warhol's Dream America in SDMA's air-conditioned galleries. The night will culminate with a fashion show featuring one-of-a-kind Warhol-inspired clothing from Kites by Carla Manuel and blonde Marilyn manes sculpted by the Paul Mitchell School of San Diego."

We will meet on the steps of the museum at 6:00 pm. The cost of admission is $10. The event ends at 9:00 pm and then we will go next door for cocktails and music at the Prado Restaurant.

If you arrive late you can meet us inside and if you can't find us, call our Social Chair Mark at 858-922-1275 and he will let you know where we are located.

Directions and info can be found at the museum website.

Upcoming Social Events
Our next event will be a trip to the Del Mar Track for the races and then to see Billy Idol on August 12th.
Lights, Camera, Action: USCC Rotaract Conference

July 19-23 (Wednesday - Sunday) or July 21-23 (Friday - Sunday)
UCLA

The United States, Canada, and Caribbean (USCC) contains more than 400 Rotaract Clubs, working on a variety of projects on the basic principles of Rotary's "Service Above Self." The Lights, Camera, Action USCC Rotaract Conference is an amazing opportunity for our club to meet more of our Rotaract Family from the USA, Canada and the Caribbean! Anyone that attended last year's Chicago conference can attest to the level of energy, insight and plain ol' fun that was shared... and this year's LA conference will be no different!

The conference is from July 19-23rd and as you are welcome to attend the whole conference, our club will most likely be carpooling to LA Friday (July 21) and leaving Sunday afternoon (July 23). We are looking into accomodations as to make the registration amount less and will get more information to you ASAP. Please put this date on your calendar and get ready to truly experience Rotaract!

Events include various keynote speakers, workshops, group exercises, the Getty Center Museum, dinner at a Hollywood Mansion and of course... our own Los Angeles after-parties.

To find out more informaton, view USCC 2006 and to see pictures from last years' conference in Chicago, view Chicago Rotaract Conference 2005.

If you are interested, please email Andrea Espinoza.

Rotaract & Rotary Trivia

Declaration of Rotarians in Businesses and Professions

The Declaration of Rotarians in Businesses and Professions was adopted by the Rotary International Council on Legislation in 1989 to provide more specific guidelines for the high ethical standards called for in the Object of Rotary:

As a Rotarian engaged in a business or profession, I am expected to...
Consider my vocation to be another opportunity to serve;
Be faithful to the letter and to the spirit of the ethical codes of my vocation, to the laws of my country, and to the moral standards of my community;
Do all in my power to dignify my vocation and to promote the highest ethical standards in my chosen vocation;
Be fair to my employer, employees, associates, competitors, customers, the public, and all those with whom I have a business or professional relationship;
Recognize the honor and respect due to all occupations which are useful to society;
Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community;
Adhere to honesty in my advertising and in all representations to the public concerning my business or profession;
Neither seek from nor grant to a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship.
