Tijuana Recap: Friendship Without Borders

"Friendship without Borders" means to have a relationship built on commonalities without the barriers of geography, culture, race, religion, or economic status. The Rotaract Clubs of Downtown San Diego and Tijuana Siglo XXI enjoyed a wonderful weekend filled with tools to build this friendship without a border.

On Friday, San Diego Rotaractors participated in the Tijuana club's meeting, danced the night away at a local "hot spot" Zoma, and were hosted by local Tijuana Rotaractors for the night. Saturday was filled with excitement as we experienced a "Carne Asada," where there was traditional Mexican food including carne asada, homemade guacamole, cooked cactus and of course... Coronas! We then enjoyed some local Tijuana beer at a tasting nearby.

Thank you to our friends in Tijuana, Mexico, for all of your hard work in organizing our weekend. We truly have a friendship without borders!

Lights, Camera, Action: USCC Rotaract Conference

July 19-23 (Wednesday - Sunday) or July 21-23 (Friday - Sunday)
UCLA

The United States, Canada, and Caribbean (USCC) contains more than 400 Rotaract Clubs, working on a variety of projects on the basic principles of Rotary's "Service Above Self." The Lights, Camera, Action USCC Rotaract Conference is an amazing opportunity for our club to meet more of our Rotaract Family from the USA, Canada and the Caribbean! Anyone that attended last year's Chicago conference can attest to the level of energy, insight and plain ol' fun that was shared... and this year's LA conference will be no different!

The conference is from July 19-23rd and as you are welcome to attend the whole conference, our club will most likely be carpooling to LA Friday (July 21) and leaving Sunday afternoon (July 23). We are looking into accomodations as to make the registration amount less and will get more information to you ASAP. Please put this date on your calendar and get ready to truly experience Rotaract!

Events include various keynote speakers, workshops, group exercises, the Getty Center Museum, dinner at a Hollywood Mansion and of course... our own Los Angeles after-parties.

To find out more informaton, view USCC 2006 and to see pictures from last years' conference in Chicago, view Chicago Rotaract Conference 2005.

If you are interested, please email Bridget Johnson.
Member Spotlight: Cade Fulton

Cade Fulton Our club's Board likes to recognize members who have demonstrated outstanding commitment, involvement and energy in the club. There's no set "schedule" to this recognition; rather, we want to honor someone when the time is right.

We are currently shining the spotlight on Cade Fulton, who went above & beyond the call of duty for our recent Ace of Hearts fundraiser. Cade volunteered to support specific efforts for the event, helping secure fantastic food donations. But, her involvement went well beyond that. We applaud Cade for her tireless dedication to the event planning & execution, creative ideas, and doing all of the above with a smile. We're proud to have Cade in Rotaract!

  • Greetings from Germany and the Soccer World Cup
Just a few quick Soccer World Cup impressions from your Deputy Secretary, who is sending the newsletter to you from her home town of Dortmund, Germany, every week:
Germany has the honor of hosting the World Cup this year. It seems like the entire country has been turned into one big giant soccer fest. For those of you not familiar with the Soccer World Cup, just think Super Bowl, but much, much bigger, with huge amounts of fans from around the entire world. Last Wednesday was the day when Germany played Poland in Dortmund's soccer stadium. The entire city center turned into a big party all day long.

    World Cup 1
Dortmund bursting at the seams with over 100,000 soccer fans.
(Dortmund has a population of slightly under 600,000.)
    World Cup 2
German and Polish fans celebrating together peacefully!
Check out the pink arrow ... I live right there, behind those trees.
    World Cup 3
Watching all the soccer games with thousands of fans on the giant screen at the Fan Fest Dortmund. A big concert stage can be seen in the background.
