Next Meeting

Our next general meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 6:30 pm at Kansas City BBQ, 610 W. Market Street, Downtown San Diego.

Please Note: This is Andrea Espinoza's last meeting as president and she will be making farewell remarks to the 2005-2006 board. We will also be heading out to Buca Di Beppo after the meeting, so come hungry!

We're looking forward to seeing you there!
After Meeting Social: Dinner

June 20 (Tuesday)
After our general meeting
Buca di Beppo, 705 6th Avenue

Please join the 2005-2006 board at Buca Di Beppo to help celebrate the Rotaract year. We will head out after the meeting!
4th Annual Ace of Hearts A Huge Success

Ace of Hearts 2006 succeeded in bringing San Diego another signature event, representing beautifully the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego. Martini Ranch was definitely the place to be last Thursday as we transformed the dance floor and lounge into a bustling casino. Guests enjoyed the craps, blackjack and poker tables while also soaking up the opportunity to enjoy the hip atmosphere and world famous martinis.

A special thanks to Aaron Adragna and Danielle Esposito for once again, organizing such a well executed and fun event! We also want to thank Darren Chin for heading such a lucrative raffle and silent auction and Cade Fulton and Jeff Haskin for finding us our food sponsors! We appreciate the volunteers and everyone that contributed to making this event run smoothly. And to our Rotary Club, we are forever grateful for your continued support.

Monies raised at this event were donated to an organization called Water for Children Africa. Inspired by Rotary International's call to help provide clean water accross the world, it was an honor to help raise money in such a way.

Those of you working or living Downtown can meet Dean at One America Plaza and catch the same trolley at 6:26 pm. This will get us to Tijuana by 7:11 pm.

Leaving Saturday
Another group will leave Saturday around 11:00 am to get to Tijuana in time for an authentic fiesta hosted by the Tijuana Rotaract Club. Same deal – you can park for free at Old Town and catch the 11:15 am trolley which stops at One America Plaza at 11:26 am and gets you to Tijuana at 12:11 pm. Lights, Camera, Action: USCC Rotaract Conference

July 19-23 (Wednesday - Sunday) or July 21-23 (Friday - Sunday)
UCLA
USCC Logo

The United States, Canada, and Caribbean (USCC) contains more than 400 Rotaract Clubs, working on a variety of projects on the basic principles of Rotary's "Service Above Self." The Lights, Camera, Action USCC Rotaract Conference is an amazing opportunity for our club to meet more of our Rotaract Family from the USA, Canada and the Caribbean! Anyone that attended last year's Chicago conference can attest to the level of energy, insight and plain ol' fun that was shared... and this year's LA conference will be no different!

The conference is from July 19-23rd and as you are welcome to attend the whole conference, our club will most likely be carpooling to LA Friday (July 21) and leaving Sunday afternoon (July 23). We are looking into accomodations as to make the registration amount less and will get more information to you ASAP. Please put this date on your calendar and get ready to truly experience Rotaract!

Events include various keynote speakers, workshops, group exercises, the Getty Center Museum, dinner at a Hollywood Mansion and of course... our own Los Angeles after-parties.

To find out more informaton, view USCC 2006 and to see pictures from last years' conference in Chicago, view Chicago Rotaract Conference 2005.

If you are interested, please email Bridget Johnson.

Rotaract & Rotary Trivia

Why did Rotary experience unusual growth in the early 1990s?

Rotary experienced a growth spurt in the early 1990s when it expanded into former Soviet bloc countries following the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union. Beginning in 1989, clubs in Central and Eastern Europe that had been disbanded for more than 50 years were re-established, and the first Russian Rotary club was chartered in 1990.
