Guest Speaker on April 18: Maureen Eberle April 18 (Tuesday) 6:30 pm Kansas City BBQ (general meeting) Our next speaker will be Maureen Eberle, current President of the San Diego Downtown Rotary Club. 2006-2007 Rotaract Elections – Service Above Self It is that time again! Rotaract Elections! Time for a new (and improved?) board to take the lead and bring Rotaract to its new year and new level! Here is the chance for you to become a part of a dynamic leadership group that will no doubt become part of your San Diego family. New board members will take office July 1, 2006 but the voting is soon for "officers-elect" as additional time will allow for a better transition from the current board to the new board. We plan to mentor each new board member and provide experience and knowledge transfer for planning events and meetings in advance of taking office. Nominations and voting is for the four (4) elected positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Once these four are elected they will build the rest of their supporting board. Mark your calendars now as we need every member to participate in the nomination and voting processes. 4th Annual Ace of Hearts Fundraiser June 01 (Thursday) 7:00 - 10:00 pm Martini Ranch, Shaker Room $30 entrance fee The 4th Annual Ace of Hearts is only 8 weeks away! Ace of Hearts is a Monte Carlo Casino night, this year hosted at the Shaker Room at Martini Ranch on June 1st from 7-10 pm. We play poker, craps, blackjack and more... and all for a worthy cause. As a response to Rotary International's 2005-2006 mission, we are joining the fight for clean water as millions of children die each year from contaminated water. This year, our profits from the event will benefit an organization called Water for Children Africa. This organization helps the rural poor in Africa obtain safe water and develop cottage industries while also developing policy for water usage in villages and responsibilities for ongoing maintenance. As we get ready for this signature event, we invite you to get involved! Planning is on its way led by our two fearless Fundraising Chairs, Aaron Adragna and Danielle Esposito. It's All About the Kids Foundation Events For the Ladies: Champagne & Purses New Date! Wanted: Rotaract National Anthem Singer May 28 (Sunday) 1:05 pm Padres Baseball game Have you always wanted to try out for American Idol because of your amazing singing voice? This may be an opportunity for you! Governor Bob is looking for an Interactor or Rotaractor to sing the National Anthem on May 28 at the 1:05 pm Padres baseball game. If you are interested, you will need to submit a CD of yourself singing the National Anthem to Carl Lower for approval by the Padres. Please contact Andrea if you are interested.

Senior Center 2nd Saturday of each month Volunteers (2-3) are needed the 2nd Saturday of each month from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm to help serve lunch at the Senior Center Downtown. Please contact Miguel for details and availability.

Members' Bulletin Board Connections VIP Ladies Night April 30 (Sunday) 4:00 pm (2-3 hours) Prego Restaurant in Mission Valley, 1370 Frazee Road Prego is a classy upscale place with ample complimentary valley parking and a great atmosphere. Light mid day buffet, deserts and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Suggested attire is comfortable business casual. Fee to attend is $10.00 to be paid in cash only at the door when signing in. The purpose of the event is to entertain and inform, providing guests with an opportunity to meet one another and get a solid idea of what Connections VIP is and what it can do for you. Even if you are in a relationship, dating, or married you will enjoy the event. It is not a dating night so there will be no pressure to come and just have a good time mingling and possibly make friends with some of the other ladies attending. Rotaract & Rotary Trivia What is the difference between community-based and university-based Rotaract clubs? Although both approaches to Rotaract club organization have proven successful in various parts of the world, there are some key differences. Typically, community-based clubs are open to all members of the community who are between the ages of 18-30. They can be "young professionals" or a combination of students and professionals. It is important for a Rotarian or a committee of Rotarians to serve as the liaison between the clubs. University-based clubs are sponsored in conjunction with a local college or university. The Rotary club should work within the school's regulations regarding student organizations and extra-curricular activities. The club may need a faculty adviser, but a Rotarian liaison also is important. If there is a Rotarian on the faculty, staff, or board of a local college, that person often makes a good adviser.
