| Mama's Kitchen's 1st Annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale: Mama's Pie
in the Sky November 23 (Wednesday) Our club will be supporting Mama's Kitchen's Mama's Pie in the Sky fundraising program. Specifically we will be supporting the distribution of the pies on Wednesday, November 23. A sign-in sheet will be distributed for those of you that want to participate in this wonderful event. See below additional information from Mama's Kitchen's website. If you have any questions feel free to contact our community service chair, Miguel Moron. This new program was initiated to help make up for the recent losses in government funding, which total $115,000 in fiscal 2005. Net proceeds from pie sales will go directly to fund 400,000 home-delivered, hot and nutritious meals to families in San Diego affected by HIV/AIDS. It's easy as pie to help Mama's keep on cooking! Buy Mama's Pie in the Sky pies and make good things happen for everyone this Thanksgiving and every day! Volunteers will take orders for pies from October 19 to November 16 in businesses, schools, and organizations all over San Diego County. The pies will be available for pick-up at many convenient sites on Wednesday, November 23. |

| Annual Thanksgiving Meeting Held with Toussaint
Teens We have turned our annual Thanksgiving meeting into more than just another turkey dinner as for the second year in a row, we held the meeting/dinner off-site at the Toussaint Academy of the Arts and Sciences. The Toussaint kids have quickly become the darlings of our membership and the Life Skills Scavenger Hunt (held every summer) and this Thanksgiving meeting are well-attended by our membership. This year, we did more than just hold a meeting with full agenda while sharing turkey and all the trimmings. During our Professional Development time, we participated in an interactive discussion with the students to help guide them in choosing colleges and careers. We broke into small groups with equal Toussaint students and Rotaract members and each member shared his/her college experience, story for how they came to San Diego, career, and their future directions. Then the students got some mentoring on how to become professionals in their chosen career paths. We wanted the students to understand that they don't have to know exactly what they want to be when they grow up when they are teenagers. We found the experience rewarding as all mentoring opportunities are and we also got to learn a bit more about some of our fellow members. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and special thanks to all members and prospects who brought a dish to share at the meeting. |

| Rotaract President from Cairo, Egypt, Visits San
Diego Ahmed Naguib, the President of the Rotaract Club of Gezira Sporting in Cairo, Egypt (District 2450) visited San Diego this week and attended our Thanksgiving meeting at the Toussaint Academy. Ahmed works for a technology company that is based in the USA and was in San Diego for a company-wide conference. Ahmed spoke to our members and to the Toussaint students about his club in Egypt and presented Andrea with a gift from his native country. Ahmed's club had written messages on a piece of papyrus and had decorated the gift with drawings of an Egyptian pharaoh, the club's logo, and a San Diego sign that was written in three languages: English, Hieroglyphic, and Arabic.
The club's slogan is "Addicted to Help" and their list of projects includes work with a local orphanage, a blanket drive for people in need as the weather turns cold, and a workshop on learning how to write a resume and interview successfully for a job. We were proud hosts and are happy to know that we have a new friend in the Rotaract world. Ahmed and his club have extended an open invitation for anyone who wants to plan a visit to Egypt in the near future. If you happen to be traveling to Cairo or have been considering doing so, please contact Andrea or Geoff to be put in touch with Ahmed. |

| Rotaract Holiday Party & White Elephant Gift
Exchange December 17 (Saturday) 8:00 pm Felix Tinkov's House, 4752 Lotus Street, 92107, 619-887-6471 'Tis the season, so clear your party calendars! It's time again for Rotaract's annual White Elephant Party. Don't know what a White Elephant Party is? This means you missed last year's party, so you better ask somebody! It's one of the more fun events we do every year. The idea is this: Bring a funny (read: crappy) gift to the party all wrapped up with no identifying marks or tags. Drop your gift off and party. Come 10:00 pm, we'll figure out how many gifts we have and prepare a series of numbers for each gift giver. Your number represents when you get to choose a gift. The first person takes a random gift and is generally crushed/amused. The second person then takes another random gift, but is able to exchange their gift with the first one picked if they want. The next person takes a new gift from the pile and has a choice of the prior two and so on. The first person gets to go for one last exchange after the last gift is picked and/or exchanged. So mark your calendar. Trust us, this is one you don't want to miss. BTW, our host Felix won't be disappointed if you bring a fine libation or spirit. If you have any questions or if you haven't received the evite yet, please contact Felix. |

| Rotaract & Rotary Trivia What is Interact? Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people age 14-18. Interact Clubs can either be school or community based and are required to carry out at least two service projects annually, one that serves their school or community and another that furthers international understanding. Although each club is sponsored by a local Rotary club whose members offer guidance, Interact clubs are responsible for planning, financing, organizing, and executing their own projects. |
