| A Thanksgiving Message from our President Melody Beattie writes "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." It is with gratitude that I write to you today. For many of us that have been in Rotaract for a few seasons, we can honestly and openly say that Rotaract is a second family to us. For those of you who are new to the club, welcome to our Rotaract family. It's been an amazing journey so far as a member and as your president and I am really looking forward to "sharing the holidays" with you. Check out the great events that we still have this year. Mark your calendars and let's finish out strong. Let's work hard and play hard! Thankfully yours, Andrea Espinoza President 2005-2006 Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego P.S. Just to humor you with some Thanksgiving song & dance. Finishing out Strong Rotaract at a Glance

| Thanksgiving Rotaract Feast with the Toussaint
Academy of the Arts & Sciences November 15th (Tuesday) 6:30pm Toussaint Academy of the Arts & Sciences (1404 Fifth Avenue, corner of 5th & Ash) Mark you calendars and get ready to grub! Tonight's general meeting will switch venues as we will be sharing a Thanksgiving meal with our friends at the Toussaint Academy of Arts & Sciences (previously Toussaint Teen Academy), located at 1404 Fifth Avenue, on the northwest corner of 5th Avenue and Ash Street downtown. Please remember to bring the item that you signed up for, or email Chantelle if you need to know what to bring, and don't forget to bring your own serving utensils! The party will take place on the first floor in a room called "Santa's Workshop", the first door on the right after you enter the building. If you need to send your food ahead of time, you may do so...park in front of the school (loading zone), run in and hand off your food to the security guard, who will make sure it reaches the kitchen. The Toussaint Academy is a licensed group home that serves homeless youth in San Diego County ages 14 to 17. Rotaract and the TAAS have developed a special relationship over the years as we help with Life Skills Scavenger Hunt and other events throughout the year. This will be a fun filled meeting to share in the spirit of Thanksgiving with our friends. Click here for more information about the TAAS. |

The philanthropic group of San Diego's young-professionals are proud to present an evening of Latin Jazz with the focus on raising money for the research of a cure for Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes. Seventy-five percent of all proceeds go to the San Diego Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. | North County & Downtown SD Rotaract Mixer November 19 (Saturday) 1:00 pm Stadium Golf Center (2990 Murphy Canyon Road) & McGregor's Pub We're going to get to know one another! The sister Rotaract organizations the North County San Diego Rotaract Club and the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego are going to have a mixer at the Stadium Golf Center on Saturday, November 19th at 1:00 pm to test their skills (or lack thereof). We'll go out to the driving range and shoot a few. For those of you who couldn't hit the broad side of barn, we'll do a little putting practice (think miniature golf). And for those who are thinking ahead, the venue rents golf clubs for a whole whopping dollar, and a whole bunch of balls for under $10. Afterwards, we'll all head over to McGregor's Pub to throw back a few and tell tall tales about the amazing drive/putt we had. We will have a fun time with a whole new set of great folks, so mark your calendars! If you haven't received the evite yet or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Felix. |

| Mama's Kitchen's 1st Annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale: Mama's Pie
in the Sky November 23 (Wednesday) Our club will be supporting Mama's Kitchen's Mama's Pie in the Sky fundraising program. Specifically we will be supporting the distribution of the pies on Wednesday, November 23. A sign-in sheet will be distributed for those of you that want to participate in this wonderful event. See below additional information from Mama's Kitchen's website. If you have any questions feel free to contact our community service chair, Miguel Moron. This new program was initiated to help make up for the recent losses in government funding, which total $115,000 in fiscal 2005. Net proceeds from pie sales will go directly to fund 400,000 home-delivered, hot and nutritious meals to families in San Diego affected by HIV/AIDS. It's easy as pie to help Mama's keep on cooking! Buy Mama's Pie in the Sky pies and make good things happen for everyone this Thanksgiving and every day! Volunteers will take orders for pies from October 19 to November 16 in businesses, schools, and organizations all over San Diego County. The pies will be available for pick-up at many convenient sites on Wednesday, November 23. |

| Rotaract Holiday Party & White Elephant Gift
Exchange December 17 (Saturday) 8:00 pm Felix Tinkov's House, 4752 Lotus Street, 92107, 619-887-6471 'Tis the season, so clear your party calendars! It's time again for Rotaract's annual White Elephant Party. Don't know what a White Elephant Party is? This means you missed last year's party, so you better ask somebody! It's one of the more fun events we do every year. The idea is this: Bring a funny (read: crappy) gift to the party all wrapped up with no identifying marks or tags. Drop your gift off and party. Come 10:00 pm, we'll figure out how many gifts we have and prepare a series of numbers for each gift giver. Your number represents when you get to choose a gift. The first person takes a random gift and is generally crushed/amused. The second person then takes another random gift, but is able to exchange their gift with the first one picked if they want. The next person takes a new gift from the pile and has a choice of the prior two and so on. The first person gets to go for one last exchange after the last gift is picked and/or exchanged. So mark your calendar. Trust us, this is one you don't want to miss. BTW, our host Felix won't be disappointed if you bring a fine libation or spirit. If you have any questions or if you haven't received the evite yet, please contact Felix. |

Working in partnership with non-governmental organizations and national governments thorough its PolioPlus program, Rotary is the largest private-sector contributor to the global polio eradication campaign. Rotarians have mobilized hundreds of thousands of PolioPlus volunteers and have immunized more than one billion children worldwide.
