Thanksgiving Rotaract Feast with the Toussaint Academy of the Arts & Sciences

November 15th (Tuesday)
6:30pm
Toussaint Academy of the Arts & Sciences, corner of 5th & Ash

Mark you calendars and get ready to grub! Our general meeting on Tuesday, November 15th will switch up venues as we will be sharing a Thanksgiving meal with our friends at the Toussaint Academy of Arts & Sciences (previously Toussaint Teen Academy), downtown.

The Toussaint Academy is a licensed group home that serves homeless youth in San Diego County ages 14 to 17. Rotaract and the TAAS have developed a special relationship over the years as we help with Life Skills Scavenger Hunt and other events throughout the year. This will be a fun filled meeting to share in the spirit of Thanksgiving with our friends.

There will be a food sign up sheet at the meeting or you can email Chantelle with the item you are bringing. We will need everything from main dishes, to side dishes, to desserts and don't forget to bring your own serving utensils!

Click here for more information about the TAAS.
Mama's Kitchen's 1st Annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale: Mama's Pie in the Sky

November 23 (Wednesday)

Our club will be supporting Mama's Kitchen's Mama's Pie in the Sky fundraising program. Specifically we will be supporting the distribution of the pies on Wednesday, November 23. A sign-in sheet will be distributed for those of you that want to participate in this wonderful event. See below additional information from Mama's Kitchen's website. If you have any questions feel free to contact our community service chair, Miguel Moron.

This new program was initiated to help make up for the recent losses in government funding, which total $115,000 in fiscal 2005. Net proceeds from pie sales will go directly to fund 400,000 home-delivered, hot and nutritious meals to families in San Diego affected by HIV/AIDS.

It's easy as pie to help Mama's keep on cooking! Buy Mama's Pie in the Sky pies and make good things happen for everyone this Thanksgiving and every day! Volunteers will take orders for pies from October 19 to November 16 in businesses, schools, and organizations all over San Diego County. The pies will be available for pick-up at many convenient sites on Wednesday, November 23.
Reminder: Dues are Due!

For all members that have been a part of Rotaract longer than six months (assuming you newcomers have paid your initial fees)... this reminder is for you! It's dues time. $30 and you're clear. Please plan on paying Carl Tiu, our Rotaract Treasurer.

The money collected in dues help pay for events throughout the Rotaract year, such as the homes we just built in Tijuana, the food and prizes for our Rancho Jireh picnic, and other volunteer events we support.

Feel free to pay with cash or check at the next meeting or through PayPal. Email Carl if you haven't received the PayPal email and would like to pay this way. Thank you, as always, for your support.
USCC Rotaract Conference

July 19-23, 2006
Los Angeles

Next year’s USCC Rotaract Conference takes place in Los Angeles, July 19-23.

The United States, Canada, and Caribbean (USCC) contains more than 400 Rotaract Clubs, working on a variety of projects on the basic principles of Rotary's "Service Above Self." It was the dream of Rotaractors in that region to educate, develop, and strengthen the Rotaract clubs. The idea of the USCC conference began in 1993 acting as a forum for sharing ideas, concerns, and experiences. This conference today is held annually giving many Rotaract and Rotary clubs the training needed to establish solid clubs.

USCC is an annual event, bringing together Rotaractors in the United States, Canada and Carribean. Rotaractors will be introduced to great leaders, motivational speakers, and community service projects ... while playing at the beautiful local beaches, Hollywood, and mingling under and possibly with the "stars!". Expand the Rotaract network to an international level and take home a revived passion for Rotaract and Service.

For more information and to register, go to www.USCC2006.org.

Rotaract & Rotary Trivia

What is the official Rotary International emblem?
The symbol of Rotary has been a wheel since its earliest days. The first design was a simple wagon wheel, which was said to illustrate "civilization and movement". Over the years, this design developed into the present gear wheel with 24 cogs, 6 spokes and a "keyway" in the center of the gear.
