3 Doors Down Produces Public Service Announcement For Relief Efforts

In response to the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, Mississippi natives and chart-topping recording artists 3 Doors Down, have produced a public service announcement providing information on contacting various relief organizations. The video will be available online at www.3DoorsDown.com and www.UniversalRecords.com.

The members of 3 Doors Down, who all hail from Mississippi, have become synonymous with aiding the community through their charity, the Better Life Foundation. Members were directly affected by the hurricane having lost their homes and property, and are encouraging everyone to help in whatever way they can in our national relief effort.

North Country Rotaract Celebrates Charter

There was reason to celebrate at Hennessey's Tavern in Carlsbad last Wednesday night! The North County Rotaract club, led by president Peter Marangos and sponsored by the High-Noon Carlsbad Rotary club raised their glasses to their official charter from Rotary International!

Supporters came to recognize this accomplishment and celebrate. Among the crowd were High-Noon Carlsbad Rotarians, members of our downtown Rotaract club, Past District Rotaract Liaison Dick Troncone, District Governor Bob Watson, Past District Governor Sandi Rimer and District Governor Nominee Jim O'Meara.

The North Country Rotaract club already has an established board and boasts of 22 energetic members. We are excited to have such a dynamic Rotaract club in North County and look forward to our continued support of one another. Congratulations North County!

Volleyball Beach Party Recap

Na na na na, na na na na, hey, hey, goodbye! The Martin Blair Cup is ours finally! We Rotaractors beat the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club in our 2nd Annual Volleyball Tournament held at Martin Blair's Beach House up in Carlsbad. The scores were, 15-9, 14-16, and a default by the Rotarians! Yup, that's right! Their old bones couldn't handle the thrashing, jumping and spiking needed for the third game, so they just gave up. We've got no shame, so we'll take it! We are the champions, we are the champions, no time for losers, cuz we are the champions. Feel free to rub it in the next time you see a Rotarian! :)

Themed "Be Rotaractive - Create Future", Rotaractors, Rotarians and their guests from all over the world are invited to come together at the Interota conference in Munich from September 11 - 18, 2005. The conference aims at picking up the Rotaract principles: Learn, Help and Celebrate. For more information visit http://www.interota.org.
Annual Rancho Jireh Picnic

September 18 (Sunday)
2:00 pm
Crown Point South

A new date has been selected and we are excited to start the planning process for this event! Join us on September 18th for our annual Rancho Jireh Picnic.

Rancho Jireh Foster Homes is a non-profit Christian ministry serving the needs of abused and neglected children. Founded in 1988, Rancho Jireh has successfully placed hurting children with Christian families in San Diego and Riverside counties who have opened their homes and provided individualized care and nurturing, helping children heal and blossom to their true potential. The picnic will be a day of BBQ, games, and a whole lot of fun for new families and Rotaract.

We need planners! Volunteers are needed to plan games and get prizes, organize cookie decorating and face painting and also help set up for the event the day of. Please contact Miguel to help in the planning stages. It's sure to be a good time!
Volunteering for the San Diego Festival of Beer

September 23 (Friday)
8:30 pm-Midnight
Intersection of State & A Streets, Downtown

The San Diego Festival of Beer is an event sponsored by the San Diego Professionals Against Cancer (SDPAC) that allows guests to sample beers from a large number of Microbreweries. SDPAC is a non-profit organization in the San Diego area that volunteers their time to help raise money to combat Cancer. This is your chance to help in that fight!
The Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego is partnering with them as volunteer bartenders for the night! This is a very fun event and over 3800 people attended last year.

All volunteers must be at least 21 years old, attend a fifteen-minute orientation session (which will be given at the start of your shift), and sign a Responsibility Release Waiver. Beer Pouring volunteers will not be allowed to consume beer during their shift... but rumor has it that we'll be all heading downtown for our own fun after the event.

Make sure to sign up at the meeting or contact Miguel to secure your spot for this fun event.

See pictures from last year's SD Festival of Beer.

Tijuana, México

On Saturday, October 8, Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego members will be heading South of the Border on a day-long trip to help build homes for needy families in Tijuana, México. No experience necessary. This is one of the most impactful community programs in Downtown Rotaract history. You won’t want to miss it!

  • September: The Largest Annual Networking Event in San Diego

You can network 'til you drop at this very busy, very active, double-dipping networking event! Look for announcements in the Union-Tribune or give us a call...
Thanks to all who enjoyed our largest event (this year) as we lined up in August at the House of Blues downtown. Over 600 networkers showed up and "broke in" the H.O.B. in style! Our member/hosts provided exquisite food and service; thank you House of Blues!
To attend the B-2-B Expo, the mixer that follows, or popular Chamber networking breakfasts, call Keith Woolgar at 619-544-1394.
