Next Meeting

Our next general meeting will be held today, Tuesday, February 01, 2005 at 6:30 pm at Kansas City BBQ, 610 W. Market Street, Downtown San Diego.

Please make sure you read the reminder from our Sergeant at Arms below.

We're looking forward to seeing you there!
Reminder From Our Sergeant at Arms

Instead of our normal icebreaker, at the beginning of the next meeting we will have a “Show and Tell”. The item can be anything, but try to make it somewhat personal so that it has some meaning to you. Those not bringing an item will be mocked and ridiculed. Of course, those bringing an item will be mocked and ridiculed, as well!
– Your friendly, neighborhood Sergeant at Arms.
Football Party Raises Money for TJ Homebuilding

The Eagles and Patriots were not the only winners last Sunday! Mike Esposito and Ethel York took home $60 each with multiple wins on the squares boards. Other winners included: Felix Tinkov ($20), Kerrith Gray ($20), and Pat the KCBBQ bartender, aka. Kate’s brother ($20).

But the biggest winner of all was the TJ Homebuilding fund. Half of all money collected went straight to the fund and Mike Esposito was gracious enough to purchase a few squares for Rotaract and one of them hit with the 1st Quarter score in the Patriots/Steelers game! So in all, Rotaract received $220 for the TJ Homebuilding fund!

Thank you to everyone who purchased squares and to all who enjoyed the fun last weekend. And special thanks, as always, to Martin Blair and the crew at KC BBQ for hosting our party!
North County Rotaract Planning Meeting on March 1

March 1 (Tuesday)
KC BBQ

Dick Troncone, our incumbent District Liaison, Bess Wakeman, Asst. District Liaison, and Howard Kummerman, incoming Liaison, will be in attendance at our March 1 meeting and afterwards they will conduct a planning session for the proposed North County Rotaract.

We have already had a number of our members who make the commute from North County express interest in founding this club and serving board positions. Our plan is to treat North County Rotaract as a sister club and to make it possible for anyone in the Downtown Rotaract club to attend both club’s meetings.

If you are interested in finding out about Rotaract’s expansion into North County, please RSVP to Geoff before March 1.
Annual Sponsorship

An annual sponsorship package is in development for the purpose of obtaining a single premier sponsor for both fundraising events in 2005 – Ace of Hearts (spring) and the 4th Annual Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes. A final proposal will be available to interested parties in early February.
Ace of Hearts 2005

Plans are being gathered for this year's 3rd Annual Ace of Hearts, once again to be held at downtown's premie nightclub, Sidebar. If you would like to play an integral and leadership role, and if you have any input for this year's beneficiary, please contact Evan Papel.
Dinner at The Shout! House

February 15 (Tuesday)
8:00 pm (after our meeting)
The Shout! House, 655 4th Avenue (4th & G)

Shout, scream, stomp your feet. Wherever the mood takes you, The Shout! House definitely wants you to make some noise. Downtown's dueling piano bar has all the elements of a prime entertainment venue. The Shout House has a full bar and a simple menu of burgers, pizzas, sandwiches and other munchies but the real draw is the talent … the club employs top-notch pianists, some of whom have clawed their way up a lengthy waiting list.

Watch for an evite and be sure to RSVP for this entertaining evening!
If you have any questions, please contact Rose.
San Diego Rotaract PR Contest

We are beginning a campaign for new PR ideas in 2005! Please contact Jomi with your most original idea for promoting Rotaract. The board will evaluate all submissions and will announce the best idea and implement your program!! Winner receives a prize...

Rotaract & Rotary Trivia

RI Recognition of Outstanding Rotaract Projects

Each year, hundreds of Rotaract clubs submit details about their exceptional community or international service projects to Rotary International. In the 2003-04 Rotary year, six clubs were selected from entries submitted to RI World Headquarters to receive international and regional awards.

During the next weeks, we will share with you the vision and dedication of these six 2003-04 Outstanding Rotaract Project winners!
