| A Message From the President As the Holidays approach and the year winds down, I thought this would be a good time to thank everyone for making 2004 such an amazing year for Rotaract. And this being a festive time filled with travel plans to see family and friends, I wanted to provide an "at a glance" look at the landmark events that remain on our Rotaract calendar so nobody will be left out. If you havent been to a meeting or a social or community service event lately, youve missed something big! Weve had an infusion of energetic new members and prospects and there is a buzz that is growing from meeting to meeting, event to event. Nobody wants to miss a Rotaract function for fear of missing an unforgettable experience. This incredibly talented board continues to impress me with their heart and their ambition and they are preparing a flurry of opportunities for each of you to share in "the next unforgettable experience". The club is transforming into a great big family. And who could think of a better way to spend the Holidays, than with their families? So I hope youll be a part of our Rotaract Family at as many of these events as possible in the coming month. Humbly and with plenty to be thankful for this year, Geoff Miller Rotaract At a Glance

Changed! November 25 (Thursday) Noon - 3:00 pm Christ Lutheran Church, 4761 Cass Street, Pacific Beach A little change of plans for our volunteer event. The time commitment can be anywhere from one to three hours and youre welcome to come help for as long as you are able. For those who signed up for the original meal delivery that was supposed to take place at 10am, please contact Carl to reconfirm or cancel. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope that youre still able to help out. |

| Centennial Project Has Been Chosen The board has made a decision to partner with the Downtown Breakfast Rotary for our Centennial Community Service project. Every Rotary club has chosen a special project that will be completed in honor of Rotarys 100th year and we wanted to do the same. Our decision to assist our sponsoring Rotary in restoring and improving the Potiker Family Senior Residence will be the next step in bringing our clubs closer together and we will be providing the critical manpower that Rotary needs in order to complete their project. Carl Tiu has met with Carol Jensen, who is heading the Centennial Project for Rotary, and Ron Erbetta, our Rotary President, as well as a director of the Senior Center and will be reporting on the scope and first activity days for the project at our next meeting. |

| Rotaract
& Rotary Trivia Rotaract History - Part 6 Since 1968, Rotaractors have continually shown that they can be an innovative and positive force for change in their communities. Service activities commonly undertaken include projects to improve the environment, visits with the elderly or disabled, blood or organ donation campaigns, and aid to developing countries. One example of the ingenuity employed by Rotaractors is a project undertaken by the Rotaract Clubs of Heemstede and Hillegom-Lissee, the Netherlands, in 1987. In order to raise funds for PolioPlus, Rotaractors from the two clubs designed an amphibious cycle that would cross the English Channel under the power of 36 Rotaractors. The campaign raised US$210,000 for PolioPlus and earned the Rotaractors a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for their speedy crossing. Today, Rotaract continues to experience phenomenal growth. There are currently more than 7,500 Rotaract clubs in more than 155 countries, with an estimated membership of more than 173,000 Rotaractors. As the program continues to grow, Rotaractors repeatedly show that they are prepared for "Fellowship Through Service." All information from parts 1 through 6 of the "Rotaract History" (included in this newsletter during the past weeks) obtained from The Rotarian, Rotaract News, Rotary International Office Communications, the Minutes of the Rotary International Board of Directors, "A Brief History of Rotaract," by Cyril Noirtin and Magali Füss, and the personal correspondence of Bill Kemp, Rotary Club of North Charlotte, USA. http://www.rotary.org/programs/rotaract/information/history.html |
