| Downtown Rotaract Wins International Award!!! Dear Rotaract friends, It is my great honor to inform you that our Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes event held last December has been chosen by the 2004-05 Rotary International Rotaract Committee as the
Andrea Espinoza (our President-Elect) and I will be accepting this award on behalf of the club at the 2005 Rotaract Preconvention Meeting in Chicago on June 17, which immediately precedes the 100th Year Rotary International Convention. Glenn Estess, President of Rotary International, has also asked us to participate in a panel discussion on planning and implementing successful service projects in order to help inspire Rotaractors around the world to continue their efforts to make a difference in their communities. There are many people to thank for their hard work and dedication in making Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes such a wonderful (and now AWARD-WINNING!) event. We are so grateful to all of you who have put your time, energy, and talents into our club. But there is one person in particular who deserves to be recognized for his tireless commitment and a brilliant idea three years ago. Evan Papel dreamed up Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes and has been with us every step of the way to see that it has grown year after year. Evan, you are an inspiration to all of us and we thank you for the example you set. In case you were wondering, our next Outstanding Project will be Ace of Hearts, our casino night to benefit San Diego Hospice. Please join us May 12 at Sidebar and help us celebrate our international success by breaking the attendance and fundraising records we set last December at Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes! Tickets are on sale now at www.sdrotaract.org. As my term as President comes to a close, I've been trying to come up with a way to show my appreciation for the learning opportunities and the pure joy I have experienced over the last year as the leader of this wonderful club. I can't think of anything better than standing up in front of the entire Rotary World and telling them all how lucky I have been to be in the position to see how big a difference we can make when such a talented group of people get together. Take a bow, one and all the world is applauding!!! Gratefully, Geoff Miller President Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego |
